Lynchburg, home of Jack Daniel Distillery and the destination on your Mint Julep Nashville “Legends” or “Hometown Experience” tour, is a landmark of Tennessee history. Nestled in Moore County, Lynchburg is a town of less than 7,000 with only one traffic light! Settled in 1801, Lynchburg has over 200 years of history in its 130 miles.

Considering a trip from Nashville to Lynchburg or looking for activities during your stop on any of our whiskey tours? We’ve included some notable eats and stops that make Lynchburg a destination for small-town nostalgia.

Main Street History

Lynchburg Historic District, listed on the National Register of Historic Places, is home to a wealth of history and sightseeing. On historic Main Street, you’ll find the Moore County Old Jail Museum, where, for a dollar donation, you’ll have the opportunity to learn about this old-world jail which housed past Lynchburg troublemakers (including the outlaw Jesse James who supposedly etched his name in the wall) until its closing in 1990. Johnny Cash even was reported to have made a visit!

In the historic square, you’ll find quaint, family-run businesses offering desserts like ice cream, cakes and small sweets to share as well as boutiques and other places to shop.

Most importantly, we recommend taking a stroll through the historic district to see firsthand how the town has been shaped over time.

Cave Spring Hollow

A destination for the ”Angel’s Share” whiskey tour at Jack Daniel’s, Cave Spring Hollow is the source of water for all Jack Daniel Distillery whiskey production. The water and air from the grotto remain at 59 degrees year-round, so it’s a great place to cool off and explore the natural spring that has fed the distillery for over 150 years! Plus, as part of the whiskey tour, you’ll have a premium tasting experience on site!

Southern Eats

The small-town of Lynchburg is home to excellent Southern food. Situated on historic Main Street, Miss Mary Bobo’s Boarding House has been consistently rated as one of the must-stop restaurants in Lynchburg offering no-frills, home-cooked Southern staples like fried okra and meatloaf.

Or if you’re into barbecue, Lynchburg has that, too! Try Barrelhouse BBQ, a Lynchburg hidden gem that provides fast service and options from pulled pork sandwiches to their speciality, “crack grilled cheese.”

Other notable restaurants include Prince’s Parlor, serving Jack Daniels inspired ice cream and other treats, and Southern Perks, a cafe and deli offering healthy, lighter options for travelers.

Blink and You’ll Miss It

Lynchburg is rich in Tennessee history and a great destination for Tennessee whiskey, fine eats, Jack Daniel’s souvenirs and exploring on your whiskey tour — or even consider a dedicated visit! We recommend taking a stroll through its historic downtown, absorbing the wonders and sights of a small town shaped throughout time. And if you have time, go off the beaten path. Who knows what history you’ll discover?

In Lynchburg, you’ll enjoy old-world history, shopping, superb Southern restaurants, and of course, Jack Daniel’s. Just make sure to bring your camera on your tour with us, where you’ll have a chance to see all of this and more.
